My artwork has taken many turns since its inception; however, the one consistent item is "magazine pages". My earliest work for my daughter's nursery was crafted from tiny, 1" squares of recycled magazines, layered to produce a sophisticated yet jovial image (mostly animals and children's themes).
As I became more acquatinted with my medium, I grew more frustrated with my scale. I began to use larger pieces of magazine pages and art backgrounds, adding a little crinkle to avoid copyright elements. Moving from 16x20 to 36x48, my first large piece, "Come to Me," even included a former passion of mine - stained glass. With each new crinkle and texture, I was inspired, and encouraged by my collectors, to add more texture. I began sculpting and making my pages come off the background; first with flowers, then with birds, and now with everything.
The old-fashioned strip shredder has allowed me to be freer with my process and more dimensional pieces are a result. Now, eight years later working with magazines, I have exploded with texture. I have begun to create more humorous subject matter and imagery that excites me. More of me is coming out with exciting new explorations just around the corner!
